Lego to build carbon-neutral factory in US

The LEGO Group, a Danish company that makes popular construction toys, plans to build a carbon-neutral factory in the US, TASS reports, citing a statement on the company’s website.

«Today, the LEGO Group announced plans to invest more than $1 billion to build a new factory in Chesterfield County, Virginia. When completed, the 1.7 million sq. ft. (160,000 sq. m) facility will employ more than 1,760 people,» — noted in the press release.

It is expected that as a result, all the energy needs of the factory for the production of bricks for the designer will be covered by renewable energy generated by its own solar power plant. «The facility will be designed to minimize energy consumption and the use of non-renewable resources,» the company added.

Construction work is due to start this fall. Production at the enterprise is planned to start in the second half of 2025. The new facility in Virginia will be the LEGO Group’s seventh factory in the world and second in America.
